PHNOM PENH, March 18, 2026<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 The Ministry of Interior of the Royal Government of Cambodia has released an official situational update regarding the welfare of displaced persons and the status of civilian infrastructure along the border for the 24-hour period ending at 6:00 AM today.<\/p>\n<\/header>\n

While the majority of citizens have successfully returned to their homes following the December 2025 ceasefire, the Ministry expressed grave concern over continued acts of bad faith and territorial encroachment by Thai armed forces.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

\n

According to the latest figures provided by the Ministry of Interior, significant progress has been made in repatriating citizens affected by recent border tensions. Of the 640,000 displaced persons recorded since the onset of the crisis, more than 610,000\u2014representing approximately 94% of the affected population\u2014have returned to their places of origin.<\/p>\n

However, the Ministry reports that 36,548 individuals remain displaced. This vulnerable group includes 18,946 women and 12,216 children who are currently unable to return to their homes due to ongoing security concerns and the presence of foreign forces in specific zones.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The Ministry\u2019s report highlights a sustained suspension of essential public services across three key provinces. In\u00a0Oddar Meanchey<\/strong>, eight schools and five hospitals or health centers remain closed.\u00a0Banteay Meanchey<\/strong>\u00a0continues to see the closure of five schools and one health facility, while\u00a0Preah Vihear<\/strong>\u00a0reports seven schools and two hospitals currently out of operation.<\/p>\n

Regarding physical infrastructure, the Ministry confirmed that no new reports of damage to public or private property have been recorded since December 7, 2025. However, the restoration of access to these vital facilities remains a top priority for the Royal Government.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

The Ministry of Interior formally voiced its support for the Royal Government\u2019s recent protest against “continued acts of encroachment and unlawful occupation” by Thai armed forces. These activities have been documented in several sovereign Cambodian locations, including areas southeast of Tamone Thom Temple, Mom Bei, Thmar Daun Village, An Seh, Ta Thav, Ta Sem, Chak Chreng, Phnom Trap, and K’nar Temple.<\/p>\n

The Ministry reiterated that these areas are situated entirely within the sovereign territory of the Kingdom of Cambodia, as defined by the maps of the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, and in accordance with the Franco-Siamese Convention of 1904 and the Treaty of 1907. The Ministry noted that these unilateral actions by the Thai side constitute a direct violation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on June 14, 2000, and the de-escalation measures agreed upon during the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) meeting on December 27, 2025.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n

In its closing statement, the Ministry of Interior urged both the national and international communities to maintain confidence in the Royal Government\u2019s commitment to a peaceful resolution. Under the leadership of\u00a0Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet<\/strong>, Prime Minister of Cambodia, the Kingdom remains resolute in its adherence to international law and bilateral agreements.<\/p>\n

The Ministry emphasized that borders must not be altered by force and called upon the Thai side to immediately cease all unilateral activities in the contested areas to preserve the spirit of regional cooperation.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
