The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have launched a large-scale military operation in response to missile launches from Iran towards the State of Israel. This joint operation with the United States, known as “Operation Roaring Lion” by Israel and “Operation Epic Fury” by the US, involved approximately 200 fighter jets dropping hundreds of munitions on around 500 targets in Iran, including air defense systems and missile launchers, marking what is reportedly the largest ever Israeli Air Force (IAF) operation in history. The escalation follows pre-emptive strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran, which US President Donald Trump declared as a joint combat operation aimed at “toppling the Islamic Republic.” The Home Front Command has issued stringent guidelines to the public, ordering the closure of educational activities, social gatherings, and non-essential workplaces until at least Monday evening. Sirens sounded across Israel as missiles launched from Iran were detected, with many successfully intercepted. However, the attacks resulted in the death of a woman in the Tel Aviv area and at least 90 light injuries across Israel. The UN Security Council convened an emergency meeting, where UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the “use of force” and called for an immediate de-escalation of hostilities. Israel’s UN Ambassador Danny Danon, however, denounced this condemnation as “hypocrisy.”
