**NEWS RELEASE: Cambodia’s Defense Ministry Facilitates ASEAN Observation Mission at O’Smach Border Region**

**PHNOM PENH** – Lieutenant General Mali Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia, officially informed the public and the international press on Sunday regarding the latest developments in border monitoring activities.

According to official sources, on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at 9:33 AM, the Cambodian Coordination Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated a mission for the ASEAN Observation Team (AOT). The team was deployed to observe, verify, and report on the border situation at the O’Smach gateway, Samraong City, Oddar Meanchey Province. This mission reportedly aims to ensure compliance with all measures outlined in the Joint Announcement following the enforcement of the ceasefire.

The spokesperson further clarified that this observation mission coincides with the leadership transition within the AOT. The chairmanship is being transferred from Malaysia, whose term has concluded, to the Philippines, which will assume leadership as the rotating ASEAN Chair and the head of the ASEAN Observation Team stationed in the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense of Cambodia reiterated their firm, sincere, and highly responsible commitment to the full and strict implementation of key agreements, including:
1. The Joint Announcement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), dated December 27, 2025.
2. The Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, dated October 26, 2025.
