Cambodia Facilitates Visit for Incoming Philippine Military Chief, Preparing for ASEAN Observer Team Chairmanship

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia – February 13, 2026 The Ministry of National Defense (MoND) announced today that the Cambodian Coordination Liaison Group (CLG) facilitated a visit for the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) to welcome General Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), during his official four-day trip to the Kingdom (February 11-14, 2026).

The visit, which took place on Friday, February 13, included a stop at Headquarters 2 in Serei Saophoan City, Banteay Meanchey Province. General Brawner’s delegation is visiting to examine and study the readiness requirements as the Philippines prepares to assume the chairmanship of the AOT in 2026, succeeding Malaysia. During the visit, Colonel Mohd Farid Bin Mohd Yusop, the current Chairman of the AOT in Cambodia, delivered a presentation on the team’s operational progress.

Lieutenant General Mali Socheata, Spokesperson for the MoND, reaffirmed that Cambodia provides full support for the AOT mechanism, underscoring its indispensable role in verifying and guaranteeing the full and effective implementation of the ceasefire. This mechanism is crucial for enhancing transparency, accountability, and mutual confidence among participating nations.
