The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the significant participation of approximately 30 female aircrew members, including pilots and navigators, in large-scale aerial strikes against the Islamic Republic of Iran, conducted jointly with the United States. The operation has been code-named ‘Operation Roaring Lion.’ A combat navigator identified only as Major ‘S’ stated: “We have prepared for this operation for a long time – hours of training and briefings. The moment we take off, everything converges towards a singular purpose – to defend our home. That is the mission, and it is also the sense of responsibility that accompanies me every second in the air.” She added: “I know that behind me stand hundreds of people – planning personnel, command and control personnel, technicians, intelligence personnel, and flight crew members who work with precision and dedication to enable us to carry out the mission in the most professional and safe manner possible.” The joint operation commenced on February 28, 2026.
