PHNOM PENH, April 7, 2026 The State Secretariat of Border Affairs issued Press Release No. 005/26 , announcing that the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JST) has dispatched a formal diplomatic note to the Thai side. The communication requests the urgent organization of a special meeting and the continuation of technical field operations to expedite the land border demarcation process, ensuring the protection of national sovereignty.
Despite previous delays requested by the Thai side for internal administrative restructuring, Cambodia has proposed six key technical initiatives to maintain momentum. These include a special JBC meeting in Siem Reap from April 17-22, 2026, and the mobilization of Joint Survey Teams (JSTs) to work on markers 42-47 in Banteay Meanchey and markers 52-59 in Battambang. Furthermore, the proposal includes the restoration of 15 original French-era border markers and the technical survey of crucial areas such as Beung Trakuon, O’Smach, An Ses, and Thmor Da.
In line with professional diplomatic standards, the State Secretariat reaffirmed Cambodia’s steadfast position against any violation of territorial integrity. The Royal Government of Cambodia remains committed to the principle of <i>Uti Possidetis Juris</i>, maintaining that borders shall remain unchanged based on the 1904-1907 Franco-Siamese Treaties and existing bilateral frameworks. The Royal Government remains dedicated to transforming the border into a zone of enduring peace, cooperation, and sustainable development.
