**Press Release: Ministry of National Defense Announces ASEAN Observer Team Mission to Banteay Meanchey Border**

**PHNOM PENH:** Lieutenant General Mali Socheata, Spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense of the Kingdom of Cambodia, officially announced that on Saturday, March 28, 2026, the Cambodia Liaison Group (CLG) coordinated a vital monitoring mission for the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT) along the border in Banteay Meanchey Province.

According to official sources, the mission commenced at 8:25 AM in the Prey Chan Village area. The AOT is reportedly tasked with observing, verifying, and reporting on the ground situation to ensure full compliance with the measures outlined in the Joint Declaration following the implementation of the ceasefire. This mission is vital for maintaining transparency and stability in the sensitive border region.

The press release further clarified that this visit marks a transitional phase in the mission’s leadership. The rotating chairmanship of the AOT, currently held by Malaysia, is scheduled to be handed over to the Philippines. This transition aligns with the Philippines’ upcoming tenure as the ASEAN Chair and its role in leading the AOT operations within the Kingdom of Cambodia.

In a display of regional commitment, the Royal Government and the Ministry of National Defense reaffirmed their firm and honest dedication to implementing all peace frameworks. These include the Joint Declaration of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) dated December 27, 2025, and the Joint Statement on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand dated October 26, 2025.

In conclusion, the Ministry of National Defense emphasized that Cambodia remains steadfast in its responsibility to uphold these agreements. The ongoing coordination with international observers is a strategic step toward fostering long-term peace, stability, and a swift return to normalcy for the communities living along the border.
