**Cambodian Government Prioritizes War-Displaced Persons, Continues Diplomatic Efforts on Border Issues with Thailand**
Phnom Penh, March 2, 2026 – The Spokesperson for the Royal Government of Cambodia today held a press briefing, highlighting the government’s steadfast attention to nearly 3,000 war-displaced families in Banteay Meanchey province and ongoing diplomatic endeavors to peacefully resolve border issues with Thailand. This briefing comes as the Cambodian Red Cross prepares to deliver urgent humanitarian aid to those affected by recent heavy rains.
According to the Royal Government Spokesperson, Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross, on February 28, 2026, approved the immediate provision of humanitarian aid. This aid, comprising food, essential supplies, and some financial assistance, is intended to alleviate the hardships faced by nearly 3,000 war-displaced families residing in safety camps in Ou Chrov and Thma Puok districts of Banteay Meanchey province. These donations, generously contributed by various benefactors through the Cambodian Red Cross, are scheduled for direct distribution on March 3, 2026.
The Spokesperson further elaborated that following concerted efforts to secure a ceasefire and end national tragedy, the Royal Government and its top leaders, including Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate; Samdech Kittiprittbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Red Cross; Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister; and Lok Chumteav Dr. Pech Chanmony Hun Manet, have accorded the highest priority to the families of fallen heroes, injured veterans, frontline personnel, and war-displaced citizens.
During past visits to meet with war-displaced citizens, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet reportedly affirmed that the Royal Government has instituted necessary measures to address the needs of those who can return home, those who cannot yet return, and the restoration of damaged infrastructure. To date, over 92% of the more than 640,000 displaced persons have successfully returned to their homes. For those who cannot yet return due to prevailing conditions, the government has provided appropriate solutions to ensure stable living conditions during this challenging period until they can eventually return. Regarding damaged infrastructure such as health centers, referral hospitals, markets, roads, bridges, schools, pagodas, clean water networks, electricity, and telecommunications, a special task force is actively assessing the extent of damage to facilitate rapid government-led restoration.
Concurrently with addressing the needs of citizens affected by the alleged Thai aggression, the Spokesperson stated that the Royal Government is also actively pursuing diplomatic channels to foster a peaceful resolution to the Cambodia-Thailand border issues through the Joint Border Committee (JBC) mechanism, in strict adherence to international conventions, treaties, and laws. Cambodia maintains a resolute stance in defending the Cambodia-Thailand international border, which was demarcated by the Indochina-Siam Boundary Commission. This commitment is based on principles of international law, the principle of Uti Possidetis Juris (non-alteration of existing borders), French-Siamese conventions and treaties, maps, and demarcation records of the Indochina-Siam Boundary Commission, as well as all relevant agreements and documents previously agreed upon by both parties. Cambodia categorically rejects any alteration of the border resulting from the use of force.
In summary, the Royal Government Spokesperson’s briefing reaffirms Cambodia’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its citizens, especially the war-displaced, and its dedication to maintaining peace and territorial integrity through diplomatic means and strict adherence to international legal principles.
